Promotes and protects the health and wellbeing of all persons in the City of Berkeley. Administers state and local regulations Environmental Health Programs: Retail Food Facility Permit and Inspection. Inspect all retail food facilities such as restaurants and markets. Ensures compliance with sanitation and hygiene laws. Community Noise. Mandated by the Berkeley Municipal Code (BMC) and sets forth standards by which noise is measured. Public Pool. Inspections of Berkeley's public pools. Ensures adherence with appropriate health and safety standards Smoking Pollution. Mandated by State law and the Berkeley Municipal Code (BMC). Storm water Inspection. Mandated by State requirements. The City of Berkeley, along with the County of Alameda are required to put in place a storm water compliance program. Waste Tire Enforcement. Work with businesses, property owners and other agencies. The City hopes to reduce illegal dumping of waste tires, and improve the quality of life in Berkeley. Community Outreach. Health inspectors in the Division of Environmental Health are active in community outreach. Staffs informational booths for outreach. Emergency Response. Staff respond to emergencies related to food facilities. Example: outbreak of foodborne illnesses, sewage overflows, water line breaks, etc. Tattooing, Body Piercing and Permanent CosmeticsPlease note: Offers services during Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) and Disasters. Services are available if power is turned off in this facility.
