HOW WE HELP EVERY YEAR
Real People Helping You Find a Way Forward
Numbers are important, but our true impact is in the lives we touch. Many of our team members have faced these same struggles. That means when you call, we listen with real patience, kindness, and understanding.
Here are a few ways we have helped our neighbors recently
Taking the Time to Help
A caller needed help paying her water bill, but did not know how to use the online application. Our specialist realized she was struggling with the technology and that she spoke Spanish. The specialist switched to Spanish and stayed on the phone, walking her through every single step until the application was finished.
Finding a Safe Place to Sleep
An Oakland woman lost her home and was sleeping in her car. We listened closely to her story and found her a bed at an emergency shelter, St. Vincent de Paul. We also connected her to food programs, safe parking spots, and groups that help people find long-term housing.
Supporting a New Mother
A new mom in Oakland was struggling to buy baby supplies. We quickly connected her with local groups that gave her free diapers, baby clothes, and formula. We even found a nonprofit that gave her a brand-new, safe crib for free.
Helping a Senior Stay Independent
An older man called because he did not have a car to go grocery shopping. We set up a free, round-trip Lyft ride so he could get his food safely and easily.
