Eden I&R receives donation in honor of Fremont Bank’s 50th Anniversary
May 15, 2014, Fremont - Fremont Bank Foundation hosted a reception on Thursday, May 15 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Fremont Bank. Executive Director Barbara Bernstein and Development Officer Mitch Reitman represented Eden I&R at the reception which was held at the Fremont Unified School District’s “Fremont Bank Foundation Professional Development Center” in Fremont.
At the reception, Fremont Bank Foundation awarded $550,000 in grants in celebration of the bank’s anniversary. The awards distributed at the reception included 50 grants of $10,000 each (including to Eden I&R) and one grant in the amount of $50,000. Grant recipients are located within the five counties served by Fremont Bank (Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Monterey).
In accepting the grant, Ms. Bernstein acknowledged the important partnership that Eden I&R has with Fremont Bank, and thanked the bank’s board of directors and employees for the on-going support. She said that the additional funds would be put toward the newly named Ollie Arnold Housing Department, in memory of Eden I&R’s long-time Housing Outreach Coordinator. Eden I&R’s Housing Department manages a housing database with over 80,000 affordable, subsidized, low-income and shared housing units in Alameda County. This housing data is critical information for Eden I&R’s 2-1-1 Resource Specialists since approximately 50% of the over 100,000 calls received annually by the 2-1-1 Alameda County Communications System are for housing-related needs (such as low income/subsidized housing, rent payment assistance, emergency shelter, and transitional housing). Ms. Bernstein said that “Fremont Bank Foundation’s continued support is much appreciated in enabling us to continue to provide Alameda County residents and employees with up-to-date information and referrals to critical health, housing, and human services. Fremont Bank Foundation’s 50th Anniversary celebration was a lovely event and testament to the mutual respect and commitment that the bank, the community and the community agencies that provide vital services, have for each other.”
